Bars in San Pedro

Are you a karaoke person? A crazy dancer? A drink connoisseur?

You can find a bar in San Pedro for most any kind of bar-hopper. In general, those looking for a chill tropical experience will have the best luck. The Belize party scene isn’t a wild one like some other parts of the Carribean, but there’s always a party to be found if you’re out for one.

Pool Bars

Is it really a visit to Belize without a stop by the water? After all, you’re in a tropical paradise. Why not make the most of the scenery and have your nightlife mingle with the waterfront?

Of course, not everyone is up for the beach after hours. That’s okay! You can still cool off by the pool while enjoying a great drink.

Your first stop should be PUR Boutique Cabanas. They welcome visitors to their taco bar and swim up bar.  It has friendly staff, fantastic food, and, of course, great views! Don’t be surprised if you stop by for dinner and find yourself coming back for lunch the next day–it’s that good.

The bar menu offers some classic standbys served fresh, like chips and guac, vine-ripened tomato salsa, or seafood ceviche. If you’re a fish lover, make sure to ask for the catch of the day. If you’re not a fish lover, ask for the Bang Bang shrimp sandwich with a tropical cocktail.

Best of all? Prices are surprisingly reasonable, considering that PUR is rather upscale.

If you can tear yourself away from PUR, make sure to check out Palapa Bar & Grill. They bill themselves as the coolest bar in one of the friendliest places on the planet.

It’s a bold statement, but that’s because Palapa prides itself on bringing you a little piece of paradise–great people, great location, and great food. The owners, a former trauma nurse and a firefighter, know that life is too short not to live your dreams to the fullest.

You’ll think you’re in a dream when you sit down to the amazing view with a tropical drink. The bar offers tried-and-true Belizean favorites made with fresh local ingredients. If you like to open (or close) the night with shots, make sure to ask for one at Palapa–the Caribbean Mojito is a full of fresh local coconut water, fresh mint, and some rum to round it out.

Don’t neglect the food either. Barbeque fanatics will go nuts for the pulled pork sandwich, while fish lovers will fall hard for the fish tacos. If you’re a classicist, reach for the Kick-Ass Humongous Hamburger (yes, that’s its name on the menu, and it delivers on its promise).

Beach Bars

Don’t want to waste any time away from the beach? You’re in Belize, why would you go anywhere else? Belize bars and the beach are anything but mutually exclusive.

Start with a stop at Crazy Canucks, located in the Exotic Caye Beach Resort. It’s one of the most well-known beach bars in San Pedro, and it’s worked hard for that reputation.

There are fun activities every night with a philanthropic twist. Hermit crab races will be the surprise highlight of your evening (if you go on Tuesday). There’s also live band karaoke so that you can live out your secret dream of being a rockstar.

If you’re willing to go a little north of town, Sandy Toes Beach Bar and Grill is near the bridge with great views that will make it worth your while. As the name implies, you’ll be able to relax with your toes in the sand and a drink in your hand.

They have live music at the bar on the beach, perfect for enjoying fried chicken, beautifully seasoned with a side of fries or Belizean rice and beans.

Wine Bars

Want a great glass of red with dinner? You won’t be lacking for one in San Pedro.

Start at Stella’s Sunset Wine Bar & Restaurant. Casual drinkers, don’t let the name steer you off–it’s a classy but unpretentious establishment with great sunset views and a fantastic location. It’s situated in a lovely garden, right on the edge of San Pedro Lagoon, perfect for enjoying an evening glass of wine in a lounge chair.

There are about two dozen reds and whites to work through, as well as a rotating menu of Caribbean fare, pizza, and burgers. If you stop by for brunch, get the eggs benedict and crepes.

Nightclubs & Dance Clubs in San Pedro

Like your nightlife a little more lively? We’ve got a couple of options for you to try
Start out at Average Joe’s, which is anything but average. It’s long been a popular bar in the area, though it looks unsuspecting at first blush. They offer live music every night of the week except Tuesdays and remain the reigning kings of wings (seriously, how can you argue with 16 different flavors of wings?)

The most popular nightclub in town is Jaguar’s Temple. It’s also the only nightclub that opens after midnight, which is why most clubbers wind up there. The good news is that ladies get in free on Fridays (unless there’s a special event) and men can get in with a $10 BZD cover.

Truck Stop in Belize

Live Music in San Pedro

We gave you a bit of live music already with Average Joe’s, but why settle for just one? Live music in San Pedro will have you dancing the night away, no matter your musical inclinations.
The Dive Bar is a quarter-mile north of town. It’s worth the trip, though, because they take pride in bringing you a truly unique dining experience to go with your musical offerings. Romantic dinner? Post-dive recovery smoothie? A bright cocktail? Dive Bar can bring you all of that and then some.
Oh, and they offer live music most nights, so no matter when you stop in, you’re always up for a great time.
Love live bands? The tourists may have populated Fido’s Restaurant and Bar, which is tragic, but the music remains as good as ever. It’s a long-standing favorite for a reason. Plus, how can you argue with one-dollar wing night on Thursdays and a daily happy hour from 4 to 7?
About 15 mins from town is the Truck Stop. A local favorite that includes a food park built from shipping containers as well as a beer garden. It also has live music, movies by the pool, and even cornhole to keep you entertained while you relax with a cold one. You can read more about everything they have to offer here.

Captain Morgan’s Casino in San Pedro

Jaguar Lanes

Bowling

If you prefer some games you loved as a child, why not branch out with bowling?
Jaguar Lanes offers a pleasant late-night distraction from the beach (with plenty of friendly competition). You can knock some pins and trash talk your companions while making the most of the lively bar, with great food options at a reasonable price.

Pedal Tours

Want a little activity to work up your appetite before you do the rounds? A pedal tour is a great way to see the sights–and have a sip, too!
Sit & Sip Pedal Tours is the first-ever pedal-powered party to hit the Belize streets. They’re also proud to offer comprehensive tours that are still eco-friendly. You’ll get an intricately-mapped route for daily sightseeing, or a rip-roaring pub crawl route for the whole gang. It’s the best of everything–sights, a great time, and a way to see all that Belize has to offer.

BONUS: Nightlife in Caye Caulker

Willing to travel outside of San Pedro? It’s a one-hour ferry ride from San Pedro to Caye Caulker, offered by Ocean Ferry Belize. Ferries start at 6:30 a.m. and stop at 4 p.m., but tickets are reasonably priced. Plus, they’re a local Belizan company emphasizing customer experience, so you’ll have a great time no matter your destination.

Bars in Caye Caulker

Once you’re there, make sure to do a tour of the best bars in the place!

Start at Lazy Lizard, a self-described sunny place for shady people…although the clientele is generally sunbathing young travelers. They have a pretty extensive menu covering most things you could hope for, from margaritas to ceviche to fresh fish.

Then there’s Barrier Reef Sports Bar & Grill, a perennial favorite among local expats and tourists alike. It’s an eclectic but highly entertaining joint with an impressive array of bottled and draft beers. Grab some of their fantastic international food with your beer and chat with the other patrons–it’s a popular social scene for good reason!

Finally, make sure to stop by I&I Reggae Bar. You can’t miss it–it’s a three-story, red, green, and yellow venue with reggae beats from a healthy sound system. The top floor is a chill zone (hammocks and views worth savoring), but wherever you land, it’s a hip spot when night falls on Belize.
